Spring Break Travel: Keep Families Protected

As families head into spring break, several viruses’ including influenza, RSV, COVID‑19, and measles continue to circulate. IZ Express reports ongoing high flu activity, with 27 million illnesses, 350,000 hospitalizations, and 22,000 deaths so far this season, including 101 pediatric deaths, most in children not fully vaccinated. RSV levels also remain elevated and increasing in some regions, with activity expected to continue into April. COVID‑19 is declining nationally but still elevated in certain areas. Measles cases are rising as well, with 1,362 confirmed cases across 30 states and multiple new outbreaks.

What Practices CAN Do RIGHT NOW

As spring break travel picks up:

  • Encourage families to stay current on influenza, COVID‑19, and RSV immunizations, as well as MMR.
  • Use spring break messaging to remind families that multiple respiratory viruses and measles are still circulating.
  • Review your vaccine supply and outreach plans, especially for infants needing RSV preventive antibodies and children behind on MMR.
  • Share quick reminders via your practice website, portal, or social media.

Vaccination remains one of the strongest tools to prevent severe illness and outbreaks during this high‑travel period.
